You can travel from Tōkyō Station to GALA-Yuzawa Station in just 71 minutes via the Jōetsu Shinkansen (上越新幹線). Plus, you can reserve seats on bullet trains, limited express trains, and Joyful Trains online for free—up to one month in advance—using the JR EAST Train Reservation system.

Jōetsu Shinkansen Train

Two train categories operate on the Jōetsu Shinkansen:

Toki: The faster of the two, running between Tokyo and Niigata stations. Toki trains feature Gran Class, JR EAST’s first-class service, offering luxurious 2×1 seating.

What is gondola ride time?

Approximate ride time is 8 minutes (at 4 m/s). Strong winds or transporting injured passengers may cause the gondola to slow down, resulting in a slightly longer ride.

Can I ride chairlift without wearing skis or board?

You can access the Barouche Chairlift in the central area on foot for sightseeing. Other chairlifts require ski or snowboard gear. If you’re unsure about getting on or off, feel free to ask a staff member for help.

Can children ride chairlift by themselves?

For safety, young children and beginners who are unable to get on or off the ride by themselves must be accompanied by an assistant

How long do I have to wait for chairlift?

During busy periods, you might wait for up to 10 minutes. The southern area is quieter, even on weekends and holidays, so it’s a great option if you’re looking for a peaceful visit.
